How to Move ORACLE_HOME or How to rename ORACLE_HOME

This document explains that how to rename oracle home or How to move Oracle_home.

I had a situation where I installed ORACLE_HOME wrongly in C:\Oracle instead of c:\oracle\SID\11204.

The below procedure explains how to rename it.

Prerequisites:

  • Take complete DB backup.
  • Take backup of c:\oracle\SID\database folder
  • Take backup of c:\oracle\SID\Network folder.
  • Take the screenshot of command “set” from command prompt.
  • Take the screenshot of ORACLE_HOME Environment Variable.
  • Stop SAP
  • Stop Database from sqlplus
  • Stop SAP Services from services.msc
  • Stop Oracle Services from services.msc
  • Change Startup mode to Manual from Automatic for SAP and Oracle Services.

Now deinstall current ORACLE_HOME using below steps:

  • Open command prompt as an administrator.
  • Execute command “powershell”
  • Go to c:\oracle\SID\deinstall folder using below command
    • cd c:\oracle\SID\deinstall
  • Execute command “./deinstall.bat -checkonly”
  • System will ask you to “Specify all Single Instance listeners that are to be de-configured [LISTENER]:
  • Just press Enter
  • System will ask you to “Specify the list of database names that are configured in this oracle home []:”
  • Just press Enter
  • It shows log. check if you see any error. Follow below steps if no error.

 

  • Now execute command “./deinstall.bat
  • You will receive below screen

  • Just Hit Enter in the above screen
  • You will receive below screen

  • Hit Enter in the above screen
  • You will receive below screen

  • Press “Y” in the above screen and Hit Enter
  • You will receive below screen

  • Now deinstallation has been completed.
  • Restart OS

 

START new ORACLE software Installation

  • Go to software location. (S:\51047948\database\SAP)
  • Right click on sapserver.cmd and Click on “Run as Administrator”.

  • You will get below screen

  • Click on Next
  • You will get below screen.

  • Select “Skip software updates” and click on Next
  • You will get below screen

  • Choose “Install database software only” and Click on Next
  • You will get below screen

  • Choose “Single instance database installation” and click “Next”
  • You will get below screen

  • Choose “Next
  • You will get below screen.

  • Choose “Enterprise Edition” and click “Next”
  • You will get below screen.

  • Keep default options and click on “Next”
  • You will get below screen.

  • Verify the options and click on “Install“.
  • Once the install is done you will get below screen.

  • Choose “Close
  • Restart OS

 

Now perform Post activities as below:

  • backup “database” and “Network” folders from c:\oracle\SID\11204 location.
  • Copy backups (which you take in per-requisites steps) of “database” and “Network” folders to c:\oracle\SID\11204 location.
  •  Now Open initSID.ora file and modify below parameter as below:
    • sid.__oracle_base=’C:\oracle’ #ORACLE_BASE set from environment
  • Go to c:\oracle\SID\11204\Network folder and Open “listener.ora” file and change below value.
    • ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\SID\11204
  • Now Open “Net Configuration Assistant” from below location.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle – SID11204\Configuration and Migration Tools

  • Perform Listener configuration

  • Choose “Listener Configuration” and click on Next
  • You will get below screen

  • Choose “Add” and click on  “Next

  • You will receive below screen.

  • Choose Next
  • You will receive below screen.

  • Choose “Next
  • You will get below screen.

  • Choose default options and click on “Next

  • Choose “Next” and Click on “Finish
  • Now you can see Listener service in services.msc

 

Now create OracleServiceSID service using below command

  • Login to sidadm
  • Execute below command
    • oradim -new -sid SID -intpwd password -startmode A -maxusers 1000 -pfile C:\oracle\SID\11204\database\initSID.ora
  • You will OracleServiceSID in services.msc
  • Change Startup type to “Automatic”.
  • Now restart OS
  • Start SAP
