How to enable Autostart for database and SAP in Linux environment.

If you want to start SAP and Database automatically after OS start follow below steps.

Option 1:

Go to profile parameters and Maintain sap autostart parameter Autostart = 1 in Default profile.


Option 2:

If you are on HANA Database the below steps applies.

Create after.local file with below content in /etc/init.d location


su – hdbadm -c “/usr/sap/HDB/HDBxx/HDB start””

su – sapsidadm -c “/usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/startsap”


This script will run after all run levels are completed.

The above script will only start the database because while the database is getting started it also tries to start SAP immediately which will eventually fail as database wouldn’t be ready by then. Can we add a line (sleep time) before startsap so that it starts sap after a certain period of time?
